Swiss machining differs from conventional turning in one critical way: the part is supported close to the cutting zone by a guide bushing, which controls deflection during the cut. For small-diameter, slender, or thin-walled components, this allows the machine to hold tolerances that a standard lathe cannot consistently achieve.

The result is close-tolerance, multi-feature parts at production volume, with the part-to-part consistency that medical, semiconductor, and defense programs depend on when ordering hundreds or thousands of identical components.
