5-axis machining moves the cutting tool and the part simultaneously across 3, 4, or 5 axes, allowing the machine to approach from nearly any angle without repositioning. When a component has features on multiple faces that must hold tight positional tolerances to each other, eliminating the need to unclamp and re-clamp the part is what makes the tolerance achievable.
Fixturing a part multiple times across multiple setups introduces stack-up error at every handoff. Multi-axis machining removes most of those handoffs.
