Pocasset Machine
Pocasset Machine has operated on Cape Cod since Al Kent acquired and relocated the shop there in 1977, positioning it to serve the oceanographic research market, including the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Al’s sons Barry and Chris ran and grew the business for nearly five decades before selling to Compass Precision in July 2025.
The company’s customers develop some of the most technically demanding underwater technology in the world: sonar and acoustic systems; imaging hardware; autonomous underwater vehicles for military, energy exploration, and oceanographic research; and laboratory equipment used worldwide. Many of those customer relationships have lasted for decades.
As part of the Compass Precision platform, Pocasset Machine gives customers the specialized marine and underwater systems expertise of a dedicated niche shop backed by the broader capacity, shared systems, and coordinated support of a multi-site manufacturing platform.
